Chess in Mexico City, from the Alameda to the alcaldía clubs
Mexico City plays its chess in alcaldía clubs, public gardens and weekend rapids. Independent clubs such as El Peón Molesto share the evenings with café blitz; on Sundays some players bring boards to the Alameda Central. ESNAJ teaches in the south-west, and the State of Mexico adds clubs and opens in Naucalpan, Tlalnepantla, Huixquilucan and Ecatepec.

Chess960 in Mexico City
No Chess960 played over the board has been found in Mexico City or in the State of Mexico municipalities around it. The closest lead is an earlier tournament titled “Ajedrez 960 - Fischer Random”, run by the organiser behind El Peón Molesto, but its page names no venue and does not say the games were played on a board, so it is not listed. The other Chess960 events of recent seasons that turned up were in other states, among them an open in Yucatán and an event in Tamaulipas.
Until a club in the capital shuffles its back rank for a tournament, the variant, with the pieces behind the pawns set out in a random order, can be played online at ch960.com.
Nothing to list for now: no Chess960 over the board has been found anywhere in the metro area.
Behind the cards
The list holds 71 entries, each resting on pages anyone can open: the club roster of the city’s chess association, the national federation’s event pages, the records of the tournament server, school and club sites, and the city press, and every fact carries the day its page was read.
Lists are sorted by the date of their newest evidence, never by any opinion of quality, and a detail that no page gives is written as “not stated by sources”. The two status lines, the three source marks and the things this directory does not look at are set out on how this works.

Clubs change halls, a café starts a blitz night, an alcaldía opens a chess room. Send the place, or the line on a card that is wrong, with a link to a page that shows it.
